Cricket Australia has announced an unofficial team for the World Test Championship on Wednesday, with Pakistan skipper Babar Azam being named in the squad.
The team is made up of players who have given exceptional performances throughout the two-year cycle of the WTC. According to the standards of WTC, these players are designed to excel in all conditions in their cricket careers.
The team includes three fast bowlers and two spinners including Ravindra Jadeja as an all-rounder. Another aggressive middle-order batter who played a pivotal role in the latter half of the championship. Babar has become part of the team due to his outstanding performance in Test cricket over the past two years.
Babar's performance was outstanding. He scored more than 1,500 runs in 14 Tests. His remarkable 425-ball 196 against Australia in Karachi led to an unlikely Pakistan victory. He has also scored centuries against Sri Lanka, England, and New Zealand.
Despite playing eight Tests, Babar maintained an average of 56.30 away from home. Moreover, other noteworthy performances include 119 against Sri Lanka in Galle that helped his side secure a win.
The squad includes Usman Khawaja, Dimuth Karaunaratne, Babar Azam, Joe Root, Travis Head, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Pat Cummins (C), Kagiso Rabada, and James Anderson.
