New Zealand Levels T20 Series Against Pakistan with Remarkable Win Led by Mark Chapman's Century

On Monday, at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi, New Zealand secured a remarkable win to level the five-match T20 series against Pakistan.

New Zealand

Mark Chapman's remarkable hundred helped the Kiwis chase down a target of 194 runs in just 19.2 overs. The series was leveled 2-2.

However, the Black Caps had a rough start. NZ lost two wickets in Shaheen Afridi's first over. Skipper Tom Latham and Will Young were dismissed which left the Kiwis in a difficult position. Imad Wasim later bagged two more wickets before the end of the 10th over, and New Zealand was at 73-4 with the required run-rate climbing.

But then, Jimmy Neesham and Chapman stepped up and started hitting the Pakistani bowlers all over the park. The left-handers put up a match-winning partnership, adding 121 runs in only 58 balls, which helped New Zealand win the game. Chapman remained unbeaten on 104 runs in 57 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes. Neesham scored 45 runs in 25 balls, including four fours and two maximums.

Pakistan had batted first and posted 193-5 in their allotted 20 overs. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan had provided Pakistan with a solid start, adding 51 runs in 34 balls for the first wicket. However, they soon lost three wickets in the space of five balls, with Azam, Mohammad Haris, and Saim Ayub going back to the hut.

After the five-match T20 series, Pakistan and New Zealand will meet in five one-day internationals, honing their preparations for this year's 50-over World Cup in India. The tour comes as compensation for New Zealand's withdrawal from their visit to Pakistan on the day of the first game in September 2021 due to security concerns. However, the Black Caps played two Tests and three ODIs in Pakistan just three months ago.
